Please read all the information in our Keratin Smoothing Checklist (below) carefully—both before and after your appointment.
At Delilah, we are renowned for the best keratin smoothing treatments in Melbourne. We’ve had thousands of happy customers visit our gorgeous studio in Brunswick East. And they all keep coming back time and time again so that we can transform their frizzy locks into a smooth, silky and soft mane.
We’ve put together the detailed Keratin Smoothing Checklist below. This is designed to help answer some of the most common questions we receive about the treatment. So, before you book an appointment with us (or while you’re waiting to see us), be sure to take a squizz—it might even give you some information and insights that you didn’t know you needed!
Frizz Reduction
Cezanne smoothing treatments are designed as a method of frizz reduction. It is also designed as a styling aid. Cezanne smoothing treatments will reduce your frizz, not eliminate it. The more you do the treatments, over time, they will reduce more frizz. Your first treatment will be a great result, but the more you do the treatment the more frizz reduction you will achieve.
Do I still need to style my hair?
For the best results at home, using heat styling tools will produce a silkier, less frizzy appearance. If you let your hair dry naturally, like hair that hasn’t been treated, you may still have an appearance of frizz.
Will keratin smoothing straighten my hair?
No, our Cezanne keratin smoothing treatment will not straighten or relax your hair. In situations where straightening occurs, we consider this a bonus—it’s certainly not the main aim of the treatment. Once you reduce frizz, your hair will appear softer and smoother, which can give the illusion of straighter hair.
Will keratin smoothing flatten my hair?
No, Cezanne keratin smoothing will not flatten your hair. It will leave you with your natural volume. Your hair may appear to have less volume for one to two weeks after your treatment but most of your natural volume will return. Please be aware that a reduction in frizz may seem like it is a reduction in volume. Smoother hair looks flatter.
Does Cezanne Keratin Smoothing contain formaldehyde?
No, our smoothing system is 100% formaldehyde-free and non-toxic.
How long does keratin smoothing last?
For most people, you’ll see the best results from your keratin smoothing treatment for 3 months. However, you may see some results for up to 6 months.
Cezanne Express Keratin
Cezanne Express is a blow-drying aid and useful to top up your keratin smoothing in-between visits only. It is not intended to smooth the hair to the extent of the full Cezanne treatment. It’s minimal effects last between 4 and 6 weeks.
Does keratin smoothing work for everyone?
Yes, to a degree. While most people absolutely love the results, there is a small percentage of people who need more than 1 treatment to experience the total magic of keratin smoothing.
If you have extra frizzy, broken and bleached hair, you are likely see good results after just one treatment. Consecutive treatments will deliver better and better results, each time. If you have thick or coarse hair, we aim for frizz reduction. We also recommend follow up treatments every 3 months, building up the effect in your hair, to dramatically reduce frizz with each visit.
What is frizz and what isn’t frizz? And what will Cezanne keratin smoothing have an effect on?
- Curl is not frizz.
- Wavy hair is not frizz.
- Broken and damaged hair is not frizz.
- Short or broken hair around there hairline is not frizz.
- Volume is not frizz.
- Hair that is split and damaged at the ends, and needs to be cut, is not frizz.
All of the above points may seem like frizz but they aren’t. As such, keratin smoothing will have minimal effect on all these factors.
Frizz is a texture of the hair that keratin smoothing will reduce. The frizzier the hair, the more regular treatments you may need to achieve success.
How much does keratin smoothing cost?
Keratin smoothing at Delilah starts at $340. This is for up to 100 mil of solution—95% of people fit into this category. If you have very thick or long hair, you might require slightly more than 100 mil of solution. The charge for additional mils (over and above the initial 100 mils) is $1.50 per mil. We may use anywhere from 10 mil to 50 mil more. Keep in mind though, as mentioned earlier, most people don’t require any extra product!
What keratin smoothing treatment should I book for?
We have a few different keratin smoothing packages, which your technician may recommend. If your hair is colour treated, bleached or quite damaged, you may need a different smoothing package. You can find further details on these packages under the ‘keratin smoothing’ tab.
Please don’t be confused about the different packages we offer. You can always book a regular keratin treatment. Then, during your appointment, we can recommend the most beneficial package for your hair.
Keep in mind that if your technician recommends a different package to the one you have booked, you are not obligated to go ahead with it. However, by opting not to accept your technician’s advice, the life and success of your smoothing treatment may be affected. Stuck for time? Try our Cezanne Express Keratin Smoothing Treatment.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
If you are using low-quality shampoo and conditioner or styling products (especially products that are high in silicon), you must detox your hair for 1 week prior to your appointment. Low quality shampoos affect the success and longevity of your keratin treatment. Instead, you will need to use a care regimen that we recommend for 1 week prior to your appointment.
If you believe this applies to you or you have any concern, please call us at the studio on 9387 6744. Have a chat to one of our keratin smoothing technicians—they’ll be more than happy to help.
When can I colour my hair?
We recommend at least one week after your keratin smoothing treatment.
Will keratin smoothing lighten my hair?
Yes, a maximum of half a shade. Smoothing treatments contain the natural active ingredient glycolic acid, which may lighten your hair a small amount. If you are an artificial blonde or an artificial red head, the treatment may remove your toner and fade your vibrant colour. This is why why we recommend fresh colouring of the hair a week after your treatment.
Will keratin smoothing ‘fix’ my hair?
Keratin smoothing will cosmetically give your hair the appearance of smoother, better hair. However, it’s important to remember that once the hair is damaged, it remains damaged. We are effectively treating the hair to reduce the appearance of that damage.
Are there things that may effect the life and success of my keratin smoothing treatment?
Yes, there are factors that can effect the life and success of your treatment. We recommend that you keep the following in mind to get the best out of your Cezanne keratin smoothing:
- Using low-quality shampoo and conditioner and styling products. We use and recommend O&M.
- Sulphate and paraben-free products must be used, and the brand must be approved by your Delilah technician if you don’t purchase from us.
- Excess (more than once a week) straightening and the use of hot-tools will decrease the life of your treatment.
- Chlorine will reduce the life of your smoothing treatment.
- Excess washing. More than a couple of times a week will reduce the life of your smoothing treatment.
- Sun exposure. This applies mostly in an Australian summer. Prolonged exposure to the sun will reduce the life of your keratin smoothing treatment.
- Saltwater and the beach. Although it is better than a chlorinated pool. Swimming of any sort will reduce the life of your smoothing treatment.
What can I expect after my treatment and when can I wash my hair?
Once you leave the studio, your hair will feel a little tacky, as we need to keep some of the keratin smoothing product in the hair to make it work. This will disappear once you wash your hair. We require you to wait 2 – 3 days before washing your hair with your Delilah approved products.
Do you have a warranty?
Yes, we do. If for any reason you feel that your keratin smoothing hasn’t worked as well as you had imagined, please get in contact with us via phone on 9387 6744 no more than 2 weeks after your treatment. Make sure you have followed all the above instructions and have read all of the above information before and after your treatment. We will book you in for a 15-minute in-salon consult appointment to look at your hair and decide whether any further action or appointments are needed.
