Top Tips for Curly Hair Care

Got yourself a mop of voluptuous, bouncing curls that are in need of a little TLC? Well, baby, you’ve come to the right place! We’re not one to brag but we can’t keep a lid on our trove of secrets that have made us the best in the biz at nailing curly hair.

So – how do you care for curly hair to keep those ringlets, waves and coils shining and boisterous?

We’ve snatched our renowned Delilah curl specialists out of the salon to bring you the rundown on the top tips for curly hair care.

It All Begins with the Right Cut

Here’s the thing – anyone with curls will vouch for the fact that those unruly waves require a whole different approach to cutting and styling than straight locks. Before we get into nourishing your mane, it’s utterly important that you give your hair the right chop to bring it to life.

At Delilah, we’re veterans of the frizz and ‘fro game.

Our stylists adopt a tailored approach to each ‘do’ to enhance natural texture and natural movement. Caring for your curls doesn’t have to involve hand-to-hand combat. The secret to enlivening your hair is to embrace rather than fight its natural
shape.

The trick to this is the dry-cut. Dry cutting allows your salon professional to work with your hair in its natural shape to create a look that works for you day-in-and-day-out. It also helps reduce damage to your hair, which becomes more fragile when wet.

If you catch your hairdresser trying to suppress the natural, voluptuous glory of your curls – RUN as fast and far as you can. We’re kidding (kind of). But, find a hairdresser who understands the intricacies of your waves and how to revitalise them – you’ll never look back.

Best Products for Curly Hair

Phew, now that we’ve got a banging hair do to work with, let’s talk products. Despite what the Instagram promos drill into us, a curly-hair-care routine should be as simple as possible.

Hair Washing

Thankfully, you don’t need to slather three litres of product through your strands on the daily. Instead, we suggest getting your hands on a sulphate and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner. You can even use a co-wash which combines conditioning
elements into a shampoo – uh, hello convenience?

Our godsend of curly hair products is the O&M range. Get a load of this – they’re sulphate, paraben and all-things-nasty free, plus they smell incredible. We can not get enough of this stuff. They even come in deluxe sized bottles, meaning your dollar
goes a lot further!

While we’re on the topic of hair washing, we are firm believers that once a week is the optimum hair washing schedule. You can squeeze in a second if you need, but the more you wash your hair, the more likely you are to damage it.

Hair Treatments

If you revel in the joy of colouring your curls, then Blondpro is about to come your most beloved haircare companion. Blondpro restores the bounce to your tresses by restoring the bonds within your hair. This allows it to spiral around itself rather than hanging limply. Our salon angels can bang out a Blondepro treatment in just 10 minutes to give a permanent restoration to your locks!

Delilah Curl Creams

Drum roll please for the holy grail of brilliant, bouncy ringlets – Delilah’s curl creams!

These bad boys are guaranteed to re-jig your hair so that it looks salon fresh every damn day. We hand-make our Delilah styling creams in house, packing in our favourite curl nourishing ingredients for you to enjoy from home.

We took a tonne of time to carefully perfect the 3 Delilah Creams to suit every kind of curl – from afros to beachy waves and the spirals in between. The result? A range of creams that not only style, but penetrate deep into the hair to treat and replenish at
the same time. These creams are the sought after miracle to eliminating frizz, without weighing your hair down.

The Peppermint, Sea Salt and Clay creams are each available from our Brunswick store, or you can pop them in an online order.

Do’s and Don’ts of Curls

Now for our parting words of wisdom on the tangles and tresses:

  • If you need to dry your hair in a hurry, ensure you use a diffuser on your hair dryer to disperse the airflow and protect your lovely waves
  • Co-washing is a great approach to cleansing your winding locks. It removes those nasty impurities and dirt from the hair without completely stripping it of your natural hair oils.
  • Drying your hair with a micro fibre towel can minimise breakage caused by standard bath towels while minimising frizz – win-win!

Of course, our wonderful tizz-embracing stylists are happy to provide the best curly hair care tips in the biz. Book your appointment today to discover the potential of your voluminous locks.
